The exhibition Grandville, un autre monde, un autre temps (Grandville, another world, another time) takes travel in general as its theme with an emphasis on scientific voyages, from the exploration of the New World with Jean de Lery's voyage to Brazil, to the major ocean explorations by Cook and La Perouse, taking in the Grand Century voyages to the Far East.Some forty antiquarian books from the library's collections, never before exhibited in Besançon, are on show, illustrating the diversity of travel destinations and cultures encountered between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries.Through the eyes of the individual scientist who is neither conqueror nor merchant, the discovery of the world is full of surprises and inspires endless questions.
